Sydney, NS Company Helps With Global HIV/AIDS Prevention Strategy
Sydney, NS - The Three Amigos is a series of twenty (20) world-class animated Public Service Announcements (PSA's) designed to entrench the use of condoms to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the world. The PSAšs are 60, 30, 20 and 15 seconds each. Featuring three animated (2D) condom characters called Shaft, Stretch and Dick, the PSA's use comedy as an educational medium.
The Three Amigos is a groundbreaking HIV/Aids prevention strategy, strongly supported by Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has called the series "a significant contribution". The series has been gaining widespread support for its humour and non-threatening approach. The Star newspaper in South Africa attended a preview and called the series "a cheeky, thoroughly entertaining, ground-breaking HIV-AIDS prevention strategy. In fact, The Three Amigos could become a cult!"
The Three Amigos has been produced by over 80 volunteers. Firdaus Kharas of Canada and Brent Quinn of South Africa are the lead Producers and creators. Sydney, Nova Scotia company Helix Digital is providing digital paint and compositing services for the series. Among the other Canadian companies participating in the production are top animation companies Funbag Studios, Helix Animation, GAPC, Affinity Productions and Atomic Productions. The series is currently in production and some are ready, with the rest being completed by mid-January.
Helix Digital's Vice President Richard Lorway said, "We are proud that we were asked to participate in this important project and that we have the opportunity to make a difference. AIDS is a huge problem globally, and education is an important part of the solution. If we can prevent even one person from getting AIDS, it will have all been worthwhile."
Producer Firdaus Kharas said, "We are very pleased to have Helix Digital on board to do a key part of the production process. Their contribution has greatly enhanced the quality of the series and really contributed towards ensuring the spots are seen by millions of vulnerable people around the world. Sydney and Nova Scotia should be proud of this company's effort in saving lives by preventing the further spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly in Africa."
The PSA's are to be made available for distribution around the world. The tapes are going to be free to broadcasters and NGO's and community groups. Each broadcaster will be encouraged to translate the series into local languages.
